Casting Off (The Big Story)

Younger boy got his cast off on Wednesday.  I took my camera and was going to take a picture, but when I went to turn on the camera, there was no memory card in it (of course).  They used a funny little electric cutting knife to cut the cast off.  The technician wanted to show us that it wouldn’t cut the skin, so he ran it right against his own palm!  I wonder who was the first guinea pig to have to determine if that device would cut skin?!

My son and I thought it was quite amusing how many different times we were told to “sit here”.  We counted about 7 different times we moved to another location to “sit here”.  Either we were really bored or we are just a couple of big yokels who are easily entertained.

I wish this post was more interesting, but it was all rather anti-climactic.  But I’ll post a picture of the “pretty” scar.

Pretty, huh?

For all the word dorks out there…I had to look up anti-climaCtic vs. anti-climatic because I have heard it said both ways, so I wasn’t sure which was correct (although I suspected it needed the extra c, because why would anyone ever mis-pronounce it if it were anti-climatic? know what I mean?)

I thought it was funny to twitter the cast coming off on Wednesday “Cast on 20, Cast off. Guess what it makes. A right arm that can do it’s own danged scribing! Yah! Younger boy’s cast is off! And I am FREE!”  Like I said, I thought it was funny, but no one even laughed, so I guess I’m losing my tiny little bit of funny.  (Maybe it would’ve been funnier if I’d said cast on 35, which was the correct number…I can just imagine some poor knitter out there following these stupid directions 😉 )

Wow am I glad this post is almost over!  I felt a little obligated to post that my son’s arm was free.  I mean it kind of seemed like it should be some big event.  But how do you get good material out of such a boring (and anti-climaCtic) event?

Pale. A little sore. A little weak. But not too weak to write with (let’s not overlook the important things here 😉 )

Hooray for the cast off. you crack me up about a knitter trying to follow the directions.
I’m happy for your son and you.

Thanks for your comment. Yeah, cereal is probably one of the better snacks you could eat. Yay for you.

Do you knit? I’m assuming you must, because it doesn’t seem like that would be remotely funny to a non-knitter 🙂

Funny how much we anticipate stuff like that and then, yes, it so often is anti-climactic 😉

But all the same, the scar looks pretty good. Have a great Monday!

      Thanks for visiting my blog!
I figure everybody needs a good scar to tell a story about, right 😉 …and that’s a doozy!

  4. That’s a good point about that saw they use. It sure looks like it might cut skin! Must have been one of those “here, try this!” moments.

    • admin says:

What’s really weird is that another technician previously told us that the saw would burn the skin (that’s why they put cotton under the cast, I guess). Maybe if it’s just a prolonged touch to the skin, because it didn’t burn that guy!

One time a professor was talking about an economic theory rooted in differences in the heat and humidity (climate). She kept referring to the “Climactic” theory. The guy next to me turned and whispered in my ear, “Tell me about this climax theory again!”

Dan??? You didn’t fall off the face of the earth after all! Must be classes just ended, huh?

So what did you tell the guy 😉 ? “Wouldn’t you like to know”? Or “It’s not a theory, it’s a fact”? Or…

Yes, temporarily back in the land of the living. It won’t last long though…

  8. admin says:

Well, hopefully, it’ll be long enough to get a little tan so that you look like one of the living.
